Background Information

Dr. Timothy K. Baumgartner began his career in mental health while a student at the University of Southern Mississippi. He obtained a BS degree in Social and Rehabilitation Services in 1975, and began service in the mental health & education communities in 1976. Continuing his education, he obtained a Masters degree in Community Counseling in 1980 and a Doctorate degree in Counseling and Educational Psychology in 1984 from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Baumgartner has continued his education, gaining an extensive background in addictions, hypnosis, families, adolescence, gender issues, child development, and mood disorders.

 

Credentials and Licensure

Licensed as a psychologist by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists in 1986, Dr. Baumgartner holds a Certificate of Proficiency in the Treatment of Alcohol and Other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders awarded by the American Psychological Association College of Professional Psychology and he is listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.  Dr. Baumgartner is also trained as a mediator by the A.A. White Dispute Resolution Institute, and he is trained as Challenge/Ropes Course Facilitator of high and low elements by Conroe Independent School District.  He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Texas Psychological Association,  & the Houston Psychological Association.  With over 30 years experience providing mental health services and education, Dr. Baumgartner is currently a staff psychologist/substance abuse specialist at Rice University in Houston, Texas.  He is also in private practice, and  is currently serving on the advisory board of Child Advocates, Inc. and the board of directors for Odyssey Houses Texas.
